released, including Mujhse
Dosti Karogi but most of them
were not hits and were in no
comparison to her earlier
movies.
Another flopped movie was
Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon in
2003
. It however did well overseas.
Now, the critics had begun to
criticize Kareena for taking
far too many repetitious kind
of roles and was being called

inexperienced and synthetic.
But in 2004 came the turning
point with Chameli. Kareena
played the role of a prostitute
in Chameli and her performance
earned her the Filmfare

Special Performance Award.
Her next release Dev was
critically acclaimed. For
her portrayal of a victim of
riots, Kareena won the
Filmfare Critics Award For
Best Performance as well
as several nominations for
Best Actress in several
award functions. Kareena
played a negative role for the
first time in Fida.
